RenderDraw AI Takeoffs

Preconstruction moves fast. Keep every number traceable.

Preconstruction is where scope gets defined and priced, and where mistakes are cheapest to fix. RenderDraw applies AI to one document-heavy part, quantity takeoff, with estimators approving every quantity before it moves on to pricing and visual CPQ. RFIs, addenda logs and leveling stay in your project and estimating tools.

Fact check

What we checked (November 2026)

  • Precon estimates at milestones (rule of thumb). Many owners ask for estimates at schematic design, design development and 50–100% construction documents. Accuracy improves as the design develops. AACE International's estimate classes (Class 5 through Class 1) are a common way to label that expected accuracy.
  • Where AI helps today: first-pass quantities from drawings, with a person checking them. Where it doesn't: judgment calls on scope gaps, means and methods, and market pricing. Keep those with experienced people.
How RenderDraw works

AI-powered, human-approved.

Upload

Plan sets as legible PDFs are the most reliable starting point; confirm other file types in the free sample run.

Extract

AI proposes counts, lengths, areas and schedule data, with the source drawing on every row.

Review

Flagged items come lowest-confidence first. Confirm, edit or reject each one.

Configure and price

Approved quantities hand off to your assemblies, price lists and labor units for pricing.

Propose

Reviewed rows move on to your pricing and quote.

Honest limits

Where any AI takeoff needs a person.

RenderDraw flags these for review instead of guessing. Ask every vendor how they handle them.

  • Degraded scans. Sheets under about 150 DPI, faded ink or creases through annotations lose detail. RenderDraw flags them and asks for a better source.
  • Custom symbols. Low confidence until reviewed examples exist.
  • Implied quantities. Items a note implies but the drawing does not show.
  • Verbal changes. Anything agreed in a meeting but not on the documents.
Evaluate on your drawings

Run one bid side by side.

Pick a real job

Choose a recent bid with the plan set, legend, schedules and at least one addendum.

Build a baseline

Have an estimator check the quantities you want to test.

Run it side by side

Run the same set through your current tool and through a RenderDraw sample.

Score misses and review time

Record missed items, wrong inclusions and the time spent correcting each result.

FAQ

Preconstruction software, answered.

What is preconstruction software?

Software for the phase before construction: reviewing documents, estimating, bidding, managing RFIs and addenda, and planning.

How is AI used in preconstruction?

To read drawings and propose quantities with source evidence, and to flag low-confidence or conflicting items for people to review. In RenderDraw's case, AI is used for takeoff; RFIs and leveling are handled in other tools.

Is the data secure?

See RenderDraw's security page for current security and compliance details.

Does the AI price the job by itself?

No. AI proposes quantities; your estimator reviews them, lowest confidence first, and only approved rows are priced with your assemblies, price lists and labor units.

Can I try it on my own drawings?

Yes. Request a free sample takeoff on one representative plan set. Your sample files remain private while we assess the request, and there is no obligation to proceed.

What does a preconstruction agreement cover?

Typically scope of precon services (estimates at design milestones, constructability and value engineering, schedule, procurement planning), the fee, deliverables and what happens if the construction contract isn't awarded. Use a written agreement reviewed by your counsel; standard industry forms exist.

Start small

Send one plan set. Judge the result yourself.

A focused, no-obligation evaluation on your own drawings. Your sample files remain private while we assess the request.

  1. Upload one representative plan set (a legible PDF set is the most reliable starting point), plus an addendum if you have one.
  2. RenderDraw reviews the set and the scope you want tested.
  3. We follow up with what was extracted, what was flagged for review, and the most useful next step.
