Wallpaper by the strip, not the square foot.

Square-foot estimates run short because paper is hung in full-height strips and every strip has to match the pattern. This calculator counts strips, works out how many fit in a roll after the repeat, and rounds up to whole rolls.

Roll sizes vary by manufacturer and market. Use the label on the roll, and order every roll from the same batch.

Method

Why strips beat square feet.

Cut length

Wall height rounded up to a whole number of pattern repeats. A half-drop match adds half a repeat.

Strips per roll

How many cut lengths fit in one roll. The remainder is offcut you cannot hang.

Strips needed

Wall width less wide openings, divided by roll width, rounded up.

Rolls

Strips ÷ strips per roll, plus extra, rounded up to whole rolls.

Example

The same room, two different answers.

Where RenderDraw fits

Wallcovering on a plan set? Start from the finish schedule.

Painting and wallcovering contractors use RenderDraw to pull wall areas and room finish data from the drawings with source references, then approve them before pricing.

  • Source on every row. Each proposed quantity keeps the sheet and location it came from.
  • Estimator approval before pricing. Your estimator accepts, corrects or rejects proposals; nothing is priced until it is approved.
  • Addenda through the same review. Changed sheets go back through takeoff and estimator review.
  • Your assemblies, your rates. Approved rows hand off to your assemblies, labor units and pricing inputs.

FAQ

Wallpaper calculator, answered.

How do I calculate how many rolls of wallpaper I need?

Count strips, not square feet. Round the wall height up to whole pattern repeats to get the cut length, see how many cut lengths fit in a roll, divide the number of strips by that, and round up.

How does pattern repeat affect wallpaper quantity?

Each strip has to start at the same point in the pattern, so the cut length rounds up to the next full repeat. Large repeats leave bigger offcuts and fewer strips per roll.

What is a half-drop match?

The pattern lines up with the next strip half a repeat lower. Every other strip starts half a repeat down, which adds roughly half a repeat of waste per strip.

Should I subtract doors and windows?

Only openings wider than a strip actually save paper. Narrow openings still need partial strips above and below.

How many extra rolls should I order?

About 10% is common, and more for large repeats. Order everything from one batch, because shades vary between print runs.

Start small

Send one plan set. Judge the result yourself.

A focused, no-obligation evaluation on your own drawings. Your sample files remain private while we assess the request.

  1. Upload one representative plan set (a legible PDF set is the most reliable starting point), plus an addendum if you have one.
  2. RenderDraw reviews the set and the scope you want tested.
  3. We follow up with what was extracted, what was flagged for review, and the most useful next step.
