A painting estimate template built the way painters bid.
Walls, ceilings, trim and doors each have their own spread rate and production rate. This workbook takes the takeoff by room and surface, works out gallons and labor hours from your rates, and rolls them into a priced summary with crew days.
- Takeoff by surface
- Gallons from spread rate
- Hours from production
- Crew days & price

Summary
Direct cost, labor hours, crew days, overhead and profit to a price, plus gallons to order.
Use your production rates.
| Input | Best source |
|---|---|
| Spread rate | Manufacturer product data sheet for the specified product |
| Production rate | Your own completed jobs: area painted ÷ hours |
| Coats | Painting specification (often Section 09 91 00) |
| Labor rate | Burdened rate: wages, taxes, insurance, benefits |
| Quantities | Wall, ceiling and trim takeoff from the drawings or a site measure |
A template organizes the numbers. RenderDraw fills them from the drawings.
RenderDraw proposes wall, ceiling and trim quantities from drawings with source references, and your estimator approves them before your rates are applied. Measuring an existing space instead? MeasurePro captures rooms on iPhone and iPad.
- Source on every row. Each proposed quantity keeps the sheet and location it came from.
- Estimator approval before pricing. Your estimator accepts, corrects or rejects proposals; nothing is priced until it is approved.
- Addenda through the same review. Changed sheets go back through takeoff and estimator review.
- Your assemblies, your rates. Approved rows hand off to your assemblies, labor units and pricing inputs.

Painting estimate template, answered.
How do I estimate a painting job?
Take off area by surface type, multiply by coats, divide by the spread rate for gallons, divide by your production rate for labor hours, then price material and labor and add overhead and profit.
What production rates should I use?
Your own, from completed jobs. Published rates are a starting point, but crew, access and surface condition change them a lot. The template's rates are placeholders.
How many square feet does a gallon of paint cover?
Commonly 350-400 sq ft per coat for interior latex, according to manufacturer data sheets such as Sherwin-Williams'. Rough or porous surfaces use more.
How do I estimate doors and trim?
Doors by the each, trim by the linear foot, each with its own production rate. The template handles both.
Is this template free?
