• Bad answer: "Our implementation team handles that"

• Good answer: Standard connectors, documented API, customers run it today

4. "Can I see a customer reference who's been live for 12+ months?"
• Good answer: Multiple references, usage metrics shared
• Bad answer: "Our customers are under NDA" (red flag)
5. "What does ongoing maintenance require from my team?"
• Good answer: Salesforce admin-level skills, no developers needed
• Bad answer: "You'll want to keep a developer on retainer"
The Bottom Line
Visual CPQ is not about making Salesforce look cooler. It's about making complex products sellable without requiring a Ph.D. in engineering to configure them.
The vendors who get this are building tools that:
• Integrate natively with Salesforce (not bolted-on iframes)
• Validate configurations in real-time (not just render pretty pictures)
• Empower admins to maintain product catalogs (not require professional services for every change)
• Improve sales execution metrics (not just win "innovation" awards)
The vendors who don't get it are building visualization layers that look great in a demo and gather dust in production.
