What changes the deck number.
Profile and gauge by area
Roofs often switch gauge at high-wind corners and edges. Take off each zone separately.
Side and end laps
Laps add material beyond the plan area. Cover them with your waste allowance or calculate them.
Openings
Deduct large openings, and price reinforcing and closures separately.
Accessories
Pour stops, cell closures, ridge and valley plates are separate line items.
Calculators check one number. Bids need every quantity.
RenderDraw proposes deck areas, zones and accessories from the structural and roof drawings with source references, and your estimator approves them before pricing.
- Source on every row. Each proposed quantity keeps the sheet and location it came from.
- Estimator approval before pricing. Your estimator accepts, corrects or rejects proposals; nothing is priced until it is approved.
- Addenda through the same review. Changed sheets go back through takeoff and estimator review.
- Your assemblies, your rates. Approved rows hand off to your assemblies, labor units and pricing inputs.

Metal deck weight calculator, answered.
How much does metal roof deck weigh?
It depends on profile and gauge. Vulcraft lists 1.5B Grade 50 deck at about 1.6 psf for 22 gauge, 2.0 psf for 20 gauge and 2.6 psf for 18 gauge. Use your supplier's catalog for the specified product.
How do I calculate metal deck weight?
Multiply the deck area in square feet by the deck weight in psf, add an allowance for laps and waste, and divide by 2,000 for tons.
How much does 16 gauge sheet steel weigh?
2.5 lb per square foot under Manufacturers' Standard Gauge. A 4 × 8 ft sheet weighs about 80 lb.
How much does steel plate weigh per square foot?
About 40.8 lb per square foot for each inch of thickness: roughly 10.2 psf for ¼ inch and 20.4 psf for ½ inch.
Is galvanized sheet heavier?
Slightly. The zinc coating adds weight compared with uncoated sheet of the same gauge. Use the galvanized gauge table or your supplier's data when it matters.
