Insulation

Insulation estimating software, building and mechanical.

Building insulation is priced by assembly and area; mechanical insulation by pipe size, system and fittings. RenderDraw proposes both from sections, plans and mechanical sheets, linked to the source, so your estimator reviews instead of measuring.

Building vs. mechanical.

BuildingBuilding

  • Wall, roof and floor areas by assembly
  • Thickness and R-value from sections
  • Spray foam, batts, board, mineral wool

MechanicalMechanical

  • Pipe LF by size and system
  • Fittings and valves
  • Duct wrap and liner areas by size
What gets taken off

The quantities a insulation estimator actually needs

These are the items RenderDraw proposes from the drawings, each linked to the sheet it came from, for your estimator to accept, correct or reject.

How it works

From plan set to reviewed quantities.

AI-powered, human-approved. Each stage records what ran, what changed and who approved it.

Upload wall sections, partition types, roof sections and the Division 07 insulation spec. Add an addendum if you have one.

AI proposes quantities

Counts, lengths and areas come back with the source sheet and location attached to every row.

Estimator review

Low-confidence items surface first. Your estimator accepts, corrects or rejects each one.

Map to your assemblies

Approved quantities map to your items, assemblies and estimating assumptions.

Price reviewed rows

Labor units, material pricing and supplier quotes apply only to rows that passed review.

Hand off with evidence

Approved quantities move on to pricing and visual CPQ with the evidence trail still attached.

Fact check

What we checked (November 2026)

  • Duct insulation (residential, IRC 2021 N1103.3 / IECC R403.3): supply and return ducts outside conditioned space must be insulated to the R-values in the code section. The value depends on duct diameter and location (attic or elsewhere). Check which IECC edition your jurisdiction has adopted.
  • Commercial piping and ducts: IECC Section C403 sets minimum pipe insulation thickness by fluid temperature and pipe size. The project spec often exceeds it, and the spec governs.
  • Mechanical insulation takeoff (rule of thumb):
    • Measure linear feet by pipe size and system.
    • Count fittings, valves and flanges separately, using the equivalent-length or per-fitting labor units from your own data.
    • Don't fold fittings into a percentage on top of the pipe footage.
Worked example (illustrative)
CHW supply 4": 380 LF straight; fittings: 22 elbows, 6 tees, 4 valves quantity = 380 LF + 32 fitting covers + 4 valve covers, each priced with its own labor unit
Human review, by design

The AI drafts. Your estimator decides.

Speed is easy to promise. Defensible numbers are the job, so RenderDraw keeps the estimator in control of every quantity that gets priced.

  • Source on every row. Each quantity keeps its source sheet, location and reviewer decision.
  • Lowest confidence first. The review queue shows the drawing tile with the detection highlighted and the extracted value.
  • Uncertain items flagged, not hidden. Anything the AI can't confirm goes to the estimator rather than being guessed.
  • Nothing priced before approval. Rows move on to pricing only after they are accepted.

FAQ

Questions estimators ask

What is the best pipe insulation estimating software?

One that reads pipe sizes and systems accurately from your mechanical sets. Test on a real job.

Does RenderDraw measure pipe insulation?

It proposes pipe runs by size and system for review; fittings and insulation rules apply in pricing.

Does it handle building insulation?

Yes. Areas by assembly from sections and plans.

What should we send?

Architectural sections, plans, mechanical and plumbing sheets and insulation specs.

See what the AI reads on your own drawings.

Send one representative insulation plan set. RenderDraw reviews it and follows up with what the AI extracted and what it flagged for review. Your files remain private while the request is assessed, and there is no obligation.

  1. Upload wall sections, partition types, roof sections and the Division 07 insulation spec.
  2. RenderDraw reviews the set and the scope you want tested.
  3. We follow up with extracted quantities, flagged items and next steps.
