Bluebeam tool sets that export cleanly into your estimate.
A Bluebeam Revu tool set is only as useful as its naming. When every estimator uses the same Subjects, layers and units, the Markups List export lines up with your estimate every time. This planning sheet standardizes all of that before you build the tools in Revu.
- Subjects as join keys
- Measure type & unit
- Cost code mapping
- CSV + Excel

Tool sets, subjects and exports.
Bluebeam tool set: a saved group of markup and measurement tools in Bluebeam Revu's Tool Chest, with preset properties such as subject, color, layer and measurement settings, that can be shared across a team.
For takeoff, the most important property is the Subject. The Markups List groups and totals by Subject, and exports to CSV or Excel carry it as a column. If two estimators name the same item differently, the export splits it into two lines that someone has to merge by hand.
This sheet is a planning document, not a Bluebeam file. Agree the Subjects, units, layers and cost codes here, then build the tools in Revu and share the tool set. That way the mapping to your estimate is decided once, not on every bid.
Subjects that map one-to-one.
Use the schedule tag
FIX-A, GWB-W1, LVT-1: the same code as the drawings.
One unit per subject
Do not measure the same subject as both length and area.
Depth in the tool
Set wall height or slab depth so volume and wall area export directly.
Layers by trade
TO-Electrical, TO-Drywall, so trades can be toggled when reviewing.
From Revu markups to a reviewed estimate.
RenderDraw starts from your PDF drawing set; confirm any other file types, such as a Markups List CSV, in the free sample. RenderDraw is not a Bluebeam plugin and does not sync markups.
- Source on every row. Each proposed quantity keeps the sheet and location it came from.
- Estimator approval before pricing. Your estimator accepts, corrects or rejects proposals; nothing is priced until it is approved.
- Addenda through the same review. Changed sheets go back through takeoff and estimator review.
- Your assemblies, your rates. Approved rows hand off to your assemblies, labor units and pricing inputs.

Bluebeam tool sets, answered.
What are Bluebeam tool sets?
Saved groups of tools in Bluebeam Revu's Tool Chest with preset properties such as subject, color, layer and measurement settings. Teams share them so everyone marks up and measures the same way.
How do I make a Bluebeam tool set for takeoff?
Plan the Subjects, measurement types, units, layers and colors first (this sheet helps), then create each tool in Revu, add it to a new tool set in the Tool Chest, and export the tool set to share it.
Is this a Bluebeam .btx file?
No. It is a planning sheet in CSV and Excel. Bluebeam tool set files are created and exported from within Revu.
Why do Subjects matter for estimating?
The Markups List groups and totals by Subject, and exports carry it as a column. Consistent Subjects mean the export maps to the same estimate lines every time.
Can RenderDraw use my Bluebeam markups?
Not directly. RenderDraw reads the PDF drawing set; it is not a Bluebeam plugin and does not sync markups. Confirm any other file types, such as a markups CSV, in the free sample.
Send one plan set. Judge the result yourself.
A focused, no-obligation evaluation on your own drawings. Your sample files remain private while we assess the request.
- Upload one representative plan set (a legible PDF set is the most reliable starting point), plus an addendum if you have one.
- RenderDraw reviews the set and the scope you want tested.
- We follow up with what was extracted, what was flagged for review, and the most useful next step.
